Jonathan Potter is Executive Director of the Digital
Media Association (DiMA) in Washington, D.C. He is responsible for DiMA’s
public policy and industry advocacy activities in the United States and
internationally, and has served as an expert witness and speaker on
policy-related issues affecting the technology and entertainment
industries, including copyright, competition and antitrust, digital rights
management and broadband adoption. Additionally, Mr. Potter was actively
involved in the creation of EDiMA, the European Digital Media Association.
Since forming DiMA in 1998 Potter was designated by Interactive Week
Magazine as one of 25 “Unsung Heroes of the Internet,” and by Tech Counsel
magazine as one of the six most influential high-tech lobbyists in
Congress. He is a frequent public speaker, and is often a guest on
National Public Radio and quoted in the Washington Post, the Los Angeles
Times and other major newspapers. Prior to DiMA, Mr. Potter was a
Washington, D.C.-based consultant and attorney, focused largely on
intellectual property and technology-oriented public policy issues. During
the 1990s he represented and advised clients on the development of several
significant legislative accomplishments, including the Digital Millenium
Copyright Act, the Digital Performance Right in Sound Recordings Act, the
Audio Home Recording Act and the Fairness in Musical Licensing Act. His
clients included computer and consumer electronics companies, cable and
satellite interests, and background music providers. Mr. Potter is a
graduate of New York University School of Law and the University of
Rochester. While in school he consulted to several members of the U.S.
House of Representatives and U.S. Senate, as well as several non-profit
organizations.
