Thomas Ryan is Senior Vice President of Mobile Development for EMI Music
North America, reporting to Ivan Gavin, Chief Operating Officer of EMI
Music North America. Mr. Ryan is based in New York.
In his role, Mr. Ryan is responsible for developing new products for the
mobile music market within North America. He works closely with EMI's
North American business development team as well as its strategy group on
mobile music opportunities, as well as other e-commerce initiatives. In
addition, Mr. Ryan works with digital marketing teams at EMI's labels --
Capitol, Virgin, Angel, Blue Note, Manhattan, EMI CMG, EMI Latin, Narada,
Capitol Nashville -- to develop and market new mobile products and
services.
Mr. Ryan started his first digital music business nearly ten years ago and
is recognized for his expertise in mobile music. He joined EMI from Virgin
Mobile USA, a joint venture between Virgin Group and Sprint PCS. As a full
time consultant for Virgin Mobile, he spearheaded the company's music
strategy that has been responsible for it becoming the nation's largest
seller of mobile music on a per subscriber basis and being recognized by
Billboard as "the most aggressive US mobile music marketer." Prior to
that, in 1996, Ryan founded CDuctive, a pioneering digital music company
and one of the first sellers of downloadable music and custom CD
compilations. In 1999, he sold CDuctive to Emusic, which was in turn
acquired by Universal Music Group. Before CDuctive, Ryan lived in Europe
for five years, where he served as commercial director for a leading
international trading company.
A dual citizen of the U.S. and Ireland who speaks five languages, Mr. Ryan
earned a BA in Government from Dartmouth College and an MBA from INSEAD in
France
