Joshua James ·
Co-Founder & CEO ·
Basecamp Productions
Joshua James is the co-founder and CEO of Basecamp Productions. With clients that include Pearl Jam,
The Doors, and Live Nation, Basecamp Productions is the premiere provider of “boutique” music download
software. Beginning with the trailblazing live “Official Bootlegs” series with Pearl Jam,
Basecamp has developed a unique business approach that allows artists to create their own branded online
download systems to sell music through their existing website. Rather than re-directing traffic to a 3rd
party website, the Basecamp system integrates with the artist’s website, allowing fans to download
music direct from the artist. The look and feel of the software can be easily tailored to match whatever
the artist prefers. Focusing on the live music market and with over 10 million downloads in the last 12
months, the Basecamp business model is serving an area that the large corporate online music services are
unable to attend to.
Before starting Basecamp Productions, Mr. James was the founder and CEO of pioneering digital
communications company RiseTech. In 1995, RiseTech was among the first companies in the world to begin
wiring high-rise office buildings with fiber-optics for direct data connections to the Internet. After
successfully selling RiseTech in 1999 to Equity Office Property (Nasdaq:EOP), Mr. James spent time as
an executive at both Laptop Lane and Fisher Communications before founding Basecamp Productions in 2002.
